    Sinopsis

The plot of this novel takes place between October 2 and 4, 1937 on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The dictator Trujillo, protected by the indifference of a West that at that time had other ends to tie up, decided to begin an "ethnic cleansing" aimed at turning the Dominicans into "whites." His gaze is directed towards the poorest and blackest neighbor: the Haitian who needs to cross the border to work in semi-slavery in the area's sugar factories. In the two days that Operation Haitian Heads lasted, between 6,000 and 10,000 people were beheaded. A love story between the Dominican mulatto Pedro Álvarez Brito and the black Haitian Adèle Benjamin who live there in the fullness of their love. Pedro tries to teach Adèle to pronounce "parsley", but the devilish word always gets tangled, the sounds intersect, overlapping one another. Adèle is too black to pronounce the correct "parsley."
