With The Lords of the Earth, the second volume of the chronicle, Angus of Metz's story exposes the visicitudes of Widukind in the company of the Danes, with legendary characters such as Ragnar Lodbrok, or his grandfather, King Goimo Longhands. With these Viking peoples to whom he is linked by family ties, Widukind will carry out a long sea voyage that will take him from Denmark to Iceland and then to Scotland, in what will be a preview of what will become the Viking depredations against the British Isles in later decades. Victors during this adventure, Widukind will finally achieve his purpose: gain the trust of the Danes to attack the coasts of the Frankish kingdom from the coast and thus guarantee an alliance of the pagan north against the territorial and religious threat posed by Carolingian pressure.
