Towards the decisive year 771 AD. C., an alchemist receives the strange commission to forge a weapon for Charlemagne, the last Carolingian. But that alchemist is none other than Aurnor, the Necromancer, who will lock a young blacksmith inside the same Monarch Stone - the philosopher's stone of the King in Alchemy - in order to obtain the forging of a weapon that would bring with it the first European empire after the Fall of the Roman Empire. But the Monarch Stone is something more than a simple philosopher's stone, much more than a vulgar copy of ambitious alchemists: it contains within it all the myths, characters and magical substances accumulated in the Collective Consciousness since the beginning of time, and, arranging them according to the laws of its creator, they will become the key to the best kept secret of the Carolingians. Qualified by the author as an alchemical tale, The Monarch Stone delves with a masterful hand into the mythology of the alchemists of the Late Middle Ages, more concerned with distilling the great virtues of the human being - such as Prudence, Vigor or Intelligence - than with transforming vile lead into gold, in order to forge with them a weapon that would finally turn Charlemagne, the impatient King of the Franks, into the first Emperor of Europe.
