The two children stopped and looked around. That silence did not bode well. A few seconds passed and a loud click sounded. Someone, or something, had broken a branch. The two friends turned pale. If it was an animal, it must be huge. Their hearts were pounding against their chest. Another branch snapped. This time, much closer. Whatever this was, it was coming, and it was coming very fast. One of the children turned on the flashlight and pointed it straight ahead. They glimpsed a gigantic silhouette hiding in the undergrowth, fleeing from the light, a species of enormous ape. The children began to retreat step by step, without turning their backs to the thick foliage and trembling with fear, when a terrifying roar tore the night. Since that day, every first night of the crescent moon of summer, year after year, the children of the town went into the forest in groups so that the creature, which they baptized as the Fat Bug, would scare them. It became a ritual that made children feel grown up and face their fears. However, precisely the year that marked the thirtieth anniversary of the beginning of the tradition, something unexpected and violent happened in the forest that shattered the tranquility of the town and had all its inhabitants with their hearts in their mouths. An event that would forever change the life of a ten-year-old boy who, according to his father, was too fanciful. A boy named Matías.
