The author of Several Lives reveals to us an exciting novel with very autobiographical overtones. Its appearance has changed something fundamental in the awareness that Maghreb authors and readers had of sexuality. Rachid O.'s adolescence was marked by his two great passions: books and men. Written in an autobiographical tone, the author narrates a harsh but true reality in the life of a homosexual teenager in the Maghreb. The last of three brothers and orphaned by his mother since he was very young, he will soon find himself immersed in a world of emotions and passions, friendships, escapes and disappointments that are not always easy to bear. The Dazzled Child is a story full of feeling and sweetness that will awaken sympathy and understanding in the reader. «Why do we like Rachid O. so much? Reading his texts is followed by a strange sensation, as if through the mere contact of literature the narrator became a desirable being, someone with whom we would like to be friends. He himself, in his written state, is a companion, as is often said of some books. Of course, Rachid O.'s beauty is proof that people don't place their affection on just anyone. But above all it corroborates what the books proclaim, if only through their tone: the author is as splendid as his texts. Mathieu Lindon «His appearance has changed something fundamental in the awareness that authors and readers in his country and in the Maghreb in general had about sexuality. He wrote about gestures, feelings and events that no North African writer has written about before. The sweet brutality, intelligence and sensitivity of Rachid O. have allowed literature to take hold, calmly and precisely, of certain sexual and social realities through the filter of a lucid and sentimental individual who has a maturely poetic relationship with the world and who writes with a freedom that does not impede intellectual rigor.
