Second and exciting installment of The Cronos Chronicles in which Charlotte, thirteen years old, is grounded since she spent a night away from home with her cousin Zee to save the world. They both went to the Underworld to rescue the shadows of their sick friends and defeat Filonecron, the Greek demigod who wanted to dethrone King Hades and subdue Humanity. When they returned, none of the cousins could tell what had happened. On the other hand, Filonecron, who was banished to the world, asks for help to take revenge on Charlotte from his grandfather Poseidon, King of the Seas, with whom he lives on a magical luxury yacht that sails off the Greek coast. Poseidon makes Charlotte's father win a cruise, and, when Charlotte and her parents are on board, a mermaid hypnotizes the passengers with her song. Only Charlotte and Jason, an immortal, are freed from the spell. As in The Shadow Thieves, the author recreates Greek mythology with great skill and imagination. So much so that, in addition to making the human characters believable, it makes the divine ones believable. Charlotte matures into a true classic heroine: able to endure suffering and do what she must until the end. But she is a human heroine, with doubts and fears, and with a sharp sense of humor, which makes you not able to stop reading the book until the end.
