Stella is a broken girl, although no one sees it. She spends her life obsessively searching for those who are like her, those of her same race, those who are broken inside. He hates his city, Naples, the bad smell of the streets, the sea that bathes it, its people, Mario Merola, the "outdated cocaine addict" Maradona. She is a teenager plagued by bulimia, she devours enormous amounts of food or does not eat anything. Like Nico, the singer of the Velvet Underground, her myth, Stella would like to be buried in a forest. Although she jumps from one story to another and continually moves from city to city, from place to place, she stubbornly refuses to grow up and lives chained to her adolescence, perhaps because she wants to please that handsome and sad man, her father, who feels morbidly attracted to her. As in a photo album, the book is a succession of snapshots that portray and document a feverish, suffering soul. He has an idea of the world that he has never externalized. She is locked in her family's dungeons and is destined to follow the self-destructive paths of drugs. Broken Barbie is an I Accuse against the hypocrisy of blood ties and against fictitious family ties.
